PROGRAM description

  • Program dates: July 15 - August 12, 2018
         University or school groups may negotiate dates with the English Language      Institute.

  • Open to students of all English-speaking levels  (students under      17 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone)

  • Highly qualified and experienced ESL instructors

  • Small ESL class size 

  • Service Learning 

  • Seminars with NMU faculty (Hospitality/Tourism and Art/Design      programs)

  • Meetings with local businesses/organizations (Hospitality/Tourism and      Art/Design programs)

  • Cultural exposure of the U.S. through social activities and community      events

  • Field trips around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan

  • 2 days/3 nights in Chicago

 

The total cost for the program is:
$3,300 (airport pickup to and from Chicago O'Hare Airport) or
$3,000 (airport pickup to and from Marquette International Airport)

Discounts are available for groups.

The program cost includes:

  • Instruction

    • 18 hours of classes each week (English, Art/Design,       Hospitality/Tourism)

    • All class materials

    • Seminars with NMU faculty (Hospitality/Tourism and Art/Design)

    • Meetings with local business owners (Hospitality/Tourism and       Art/Design)

  • Room

    • Double occupancy in the NMU dormitories

  • Board

    • 2 meals/day in the cafeteria

  • Activity Fee

    • Cultural field trips 

    • Local transportation in Marquette, MI

    • Social and community events

    • Welcome picnic

    • Lodging in Chicago hostel for 3 nights

    • Sightseeing and transportation in Chicago

  • Other

    • Airport Transportation

    • Health Insurance (does not provide 100% coverage)

                 **We recommend that students bring additional health insurance coverage from their home countries.

 

Sample Program Schedule (depends on program)

Times description

9:00 a.m. -

11:00 a.m.

ESL class: focused on listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar. This class meets Monday - Friday (Fridays -- morning-only classes)
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Lunch
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Classes in English, Art & Design, or Hospitality & Tourism
3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Seminars with NMU faculty and visits with local business owners.
Evening Various social activities are scheduled throughout the four-week session during the evening.
Saturdays Cultural field trips around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are scheduled each Saturday.
Sundays These are 'free' days to explore Marquette on one's own, with other students, and/or with the Social Events Coordinator.
